On Monday, November 6th, the Prostate Cancer Foundation hosted its annual gala at Cipriani 42 in NYC. The PCF was founded by Michael Milken and funds research programs for the prevention, detection, and treatment of prostate cancer. This year, the event honored Peter and Laura Grauer, founders of Grantmaker, a platform that provides charities with assistance for fundraising. Both were honored for increasing the number of women in leadership positions in science and beyond. Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson wowed the crowd as guest-host and entertainment. The foundation was able to raise $18 million, where 82 cents of every dollar donated goes to research programs. This year the proceeds were donated to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) which is the most common form of cancer among the veteran population. Additional highlights included AllianceBernstein’s CEO Seth Bernstein and guests, which included Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who donated $1 million to the PCF Young Investigator program.
PCF’s Board of Directors includes business leaders such as Andrew J. Astrachan, James Blair, Steve Burd, Peter Grauer, David H. Koch, Honorable Earle Mack, Neil Rodin, Andrew von Eschenbach, MD; Drew Pinsky, MD; and radio and television host Clark Howard.
