Timothy Hill, transformation through love

Jerrell Hill a preacher from Riverhead, N.Y. and his wife Fern, opened their doors to dozens of foster children who were homeless or in crisis. Their son Timothy was drawn to the needs of the other children and had great empathy. He said he wanted to “Build a place where troubled kids could live, be loved, feel safe, and have wide open spaces to ride horses.”

Timothy Hill worked three paper routes to make his dream a reality. His mother would take calls from Real Estate brokers who had been contacted by her 12-year-old son. On May 11, 1972, a tragic bicycle-truck accident ended Timothy’s life at the young age of 13. His mother sought solace in writing and wrote “Graduation to Glory,” The book drew immediate attention from friends and fans which created a fund called “For Timothy’s Ranch” and it ultimately manifested land and horses via donations and landlords. A couple drove up from Tennessee with horses and to this day donations are still received.

Timothy Hill opened its doors for the first time on November 15, 1980 and has provided just what Timothy wanted for hundreds of children and young adults. The Timothy Hill Foundation teaches love and trust when society has failed. A small percentage of children receive a life-changing experience leaving abuse and neglect behind them to train and groom horses, appreciate plants and a different way of life.
