Kissaki, Out East

New York’s downtown hot spot Kissaki known for its premium quality sushi is opening Out East. Garry Kanfer and Chef Mark Garcia honor the Japanese tradition with signature premium omakase boxes, specialty rolls, and lite bites. Kissaki has secured two robots, a Maki and Nigiri Maker, which will be used for delivery and take out orders. Kissaki’s owner Garry Kanfer met with Ben Rinzler of Madison Properties Management to create the Out East outpost. The Management company oversees Watermill Square. Kanfer is the founder of Big Drop, a full-service digital agency, servicing Fortune 500 clients across the company’s three locations.

Executive Chef and Partner Mark Garcia immersed himself in a decade-long mentorship with Chef Kaze Chan of Sushi-san, who has a 30-year history of opening innovative and wildly successful sushi restaurants such as the Heat, Mirai Sushi, Kaze Sushi, and Macku Sushi. Chef Garcia’s experience also comes from The Waldorf Astoria, The Wit and J.W. Marriott Chicago. In 2016, Mark debuted his modern omakase at Gaijin in Astoria, Queens. The fitting name “Gaijin” translates to “outsider” in Japanese, as Mark considers himself an outsider whose deep appreciation of the culture and craft ultimately led him to open his own restaurant.
