Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins & Stratis Morfogen, founder of Philippe Chow recently opened The Brooklyn Chop House at 150 Nassau St., N.Y.C. In 2002, 150 Nassau nestled between Spruce and Beekman, home of the 1896 Beaux-Arts building was converted into residential condominiums. The 5,000-square-foot Asian steakhouse has 150 seats, plus another 35 seats at the bar including several private and semi-private areas throughout the restaurant with raw brick and ceiling to floor curtains. Offerings include salads, raw dishes, dry-aged cuts, burgers, dumplings galore and dishes for two.

The Chop House only uses Bell & Evans hormone and antibiotic free organic chicken. There are several chicken dishes including chicken satay, sweet black bean Beijing, spicy kung Pao, spicy velvet, sweet and sour and chicken jo lau. The quality of the chicken shines through the flavors of each unique dish.

The Steaks are 60 day dry aged and double thick chops unless you order the crispy filet mignon. There is an impressive assortment of small plates to choose from which include lite bites of chicken or vegetable lettuce wraps, Crispy seaweed or tasty short rib bao buns, exceptional Peking duck tacos, glazed spare rib tacos, tender lobster spring rolls, and more chef-driven fine indulgences.

Fish dishes include steamed Montauk black bass with garlic and black bean broth, Drunkin’ branzino, or Steamed or broiled whole fish of the day. The Chop House specializes in an abundant amount of dishes, so many so that it has a specialties menu which includes 7lb LI Peking duck, South African lobster tails & crispy filet mignon, Alaskan king crab legs for two with garlic/ginger and juicy salt & pepper lobster for two.

The side dishes are numerous and impressive. The menu is exceptionally accomplished with sophisticated notes that one should indulge in.

The restaurant is close to the Chambers Street stop on the 6 train, The Courthouse, Brooklyn Bridge and The posh Beekman Hotel. It’s a nice combination to have dinner at the Chop House and after dinner drinks in the impeccable lounge at the Beekman.

The Brooklyn Chop House is now open weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and weekends until midnight. Cummins, a former music executive, has worked with Mary J. Blige, Sean Combs, 50 Cent, and more, so be prepared to people watch.
