On Thursday, August 3rd artists and art enthusiasts gathered at the historical 1927 Pridwin Hotel and cottages on Shelter Island for the New York Academy of Art as it hosted its annual Summer Drawing Party. It is the second time that this most prestigious 8-acre property and hotel has been chosen for this most prestigious event.
Cocktails, wine by Wölffer Estate Vinyard, and hors d’ oeuvres were served while art lessons from established contemporary artists ensued. This year artist John Wellington served as the guest instructor. Each year the academy draws in very eclectic hosts and guests.
This year’s hosts included Curtis Bashaw and Will Riccio, Alissa Friedman, and Glenn Petry, Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy, Joey Wölffer, and Max Rohn.
VIP guests included Naomi Watts, Donna Karan, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Moses, Candace Bushnell, Joseph Altuzurra, Susanne Cochran, Lisa Cohen, Bernardo Siciliano, and John Wellington.
Founded in 1982, the New York Academy of Art is an independent, nonprofit graduate school that combines intensive technical training in the fine arts with active critical discourse. Founders include Andy Warhol.
The academy is known for its strong educational program and speaker series. The Pridwin is one of the many New England-styled destination hotels in the Cape Resort’s portfolio which includes Baron’s Cove owned by the Petry family.
