Evelyn Alexander Wildlife, Get Wild Benefit

On Saturday June 25th the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons celebrated its 14th Annual GET WILD Benefit. The full-service professional wildlife rescue center and hospital is the only one of its kind on Long Island.

Guests were welcomed to a natural and beautiful setting at Swan’s Crossing on Halsey Neck Pond in Southampton Village where they were entertained with a live music trio, enjoyed lite bites by Hamptons Aristocrat and cocktails by the sea. Some of the non-releasable hawks and owls that the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center has rehabilitated and now reside at the Center were in attendance. Guests were also able to participate in a silent auction.

Event chairs for this year’s benefit were Ingrid Edelman, Jane Gill, and Jonathan McCann, while honorees were Bridget Fleming and Karen Johnston, DVM.  All proceeds benefited the native wildlife treated at their hospital which are released back into the wild across Eastern Long Island. Originally started with a few friends who were concerned about the wild animals impacted by human encroachment on their habitat The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons located on Munn’s Pond Park, part of the greenbelt between Tiana Bay to Peconic Bay, through a cooperative licensing agreement with Suffolk County Department of Parks. The center has now grown to 3,000 members and supporters with more than 300 people being trained to help with rescues. They also have over 10,000 field calls yearly. The center needs $650,000 yearly which is almost entirely funded by generous donors.
