The Ellen Hermanson Foundation summer gala

    Proceeds benefit the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and the Community Partnership Program to reach underserved women with The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center, OLA, The Retreat, and The Shinnecock Indian Health Center.

    On Saturday, August 27, the Ellen Hermanson Foundation hosted its summer gala at the Hampton Racquet in East Hampton. Ingrid Arneberg was honored and the late Emily Levin, co-founder of The Ellen Hermanson Foundation was recognized in memoriam. Both are known for their dedication and commitment to breast health care on the East End.

    The Foundation is named in memory of Ellen Hermanson – who passed away in 1995 after battling breast cancer – a journalist, activist, mother, wife, and sister of foundation co-founders Julie Ratner and the late Emily Levin.

    Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and a family style dinner by Lan Cao, the chef of V Cafe in New York City. Bellissima Prosecco was provided by Christie Brinkley. Then Winston Irie and the Selective Security Band entertained the guests while they danced the night away.

    Jean Shafiroff, noted philanthropist, was the Gala Chair, along with the Host Committee which included The Ellen Hermanson Foundation Board of Directors, The Executive Director, and friends of the Foundation. Also in attendance were Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming, and NY State Assembly members Rebecca Seawright and Fred W. Thiele Jr.

    Funds raised provide for breast health care services in our community:

    ●       Free breast cancer screenings for uninsured women;

    ●       A full-time oncological social worker to provide group and individual therapy through Ellen’s Well, a free support and wellness program;

    ●       Funding for a bilingual, bicultural outreach worker;

    ●       Emergency grants for diagnostic breast healthcare expenses; and

    ●       Funding for breast health programs in partnership with The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center, OLA (Organización Latino-Americana of the East End), The Retreat—All Against Abuse, and The Shinnecock Indian Health Center.
