The Colony Hotel & de Gournay Celebrate the Debut of The Living Room

de Gournay at The Colony Hotel, Palm Beach

Meet me at The Colony, they say after a long day in Palm Beach. Friends enter through the newly renovated living room with de Gournay hand painted wallpaper, reminiscent of the 1947 original. I rarely use the word whimsical but it could certainly be used here, as it’s filled with all sorts of creatures peeking out through the flora such as parrots, cougars, alligators, flamingos and of course ‘Johnny Brown” The Colony’s beloved monkey mascot with a story of his own.

On April 26th, Grace & Chris Meigher of Quest Magazine hosted an event celebrating the renovation with co-host Mimi McMakin of Kemble Interiors, responsible for the most recent renovation. Swifty’s served lite bites with rosé Provence provided by Whispering Angel. When lite bites melt in your mouth, fine wine flows, beautiful conversation ensues in the right location, with the minutely correct ambiance…… power and magic manifest.

Why does this matter we ask? It’s all in the details. Discerning minds want to know. Color, space and texture are all important in design and when mentioning The Colony Hotel. The amalgamation of the attention to detail has created a story book tale where you leave your troubles at the door, move forward with grace, elegance, style and become one with that fabulous 1960’s Vogue photo shoot that is called The Colony. Even parrots were brought in to provide another layer of detail to the event.

Hosted by Grace & Chris Meigher, with guests Mimi McMackin, Colony owners Sarah& Andrew Wetenhall, Christine Speare of de Gournay, plus Wilber & Hillary Geary Ross, George & Lauren Merck, Sharon Bush, Britty & John Damgard, Peter and Mary Dawkins, Ann & Peter Summers, Kristen Schonwald Vila, Danielle Rollins, Ted Cooney, Tiffany Marks, and many more.  Wine generously provided by Whispering Angel

Custom designed in collaboration with Colony owner Sarah Wetenhall, the de Gournay scenic for The Colony was inspired by the original mid-century mural that adorned The Colony lobby when the hotel first opened in 1947. (we found) “an old postcard image of the mural titled ‘The Early Days in Palm Beach,” says Wetenhall. “We worked hand in hand with de Gournay to create this unique ‘love letter’ to The Colony and Palm Beach. It was our mission to embody the whimsy and humor of our beloved hotel, brought to life through the meticulous artistry of de Gournay.”
