    “Welcome to the Jungle!”

Mabley Handler is proud to present our exotic Palm Beach guest suite titled “Welcome to the Jungle!” at this year’s Kips Bay Palm Beach Decorator Show House. We had the pleasure of designing a bedroom suite consisting of a guest bedroom, full bathroom, and walk-in closet at this year’s show house, and we wanted to create a playful and eye-catching room that was both stylish and inviting. Our imagination was stirred by the exterior architecture of the house, the style of which is reminiscent of early 1900’s homes in Palm beach, many of which had been designed by acclaimed architect Addison Mizner, known for his recognizable Spanish/Mediterranean colonial revival style. Upon entering our space, we want visitors to feel like they have walked into a historic home that has been thoughtfully refreshed… A touch of classic Palm Beach elegance, paired with approachable elements of modernism and current style – A timeless space from a different era that is equally livable today.

We began this journey by customizing a spectacular paneled mural wallpaper from Gracie called “Tropics.” We chose a metallic melon back round with the palms and plants colored in a neutral palette of soft grey, sage green, and cream. From there we wanted the experience to feel layered from the floor all the way up to the extensive trellis and coffered ceiling that we custom-designed for the room. The furnishings are a curated mix of modern silhouettes with art deco fabrics from Harlequin & Zoffany, juxtaposed against modern lighting. The room has multiple destinations, including a recamier to lounge on, a classic lacquered drop-down writing desk paired with a vintage rattan armchair and a grey woven canopy bed from Palecek. Touches of warm burled wood in modern forms appear as bedside tables and on the hall console. Vintage and eclectic accessories were found at Palm Beach Regency, and are sprinkled throughout the room.

The bathroom features a stunning Arasbescato porcelain from Primestone that we used in slab form to frame the tub and shower walls and on the entire floor of the room. The chic Kohler plumbing fixtures and floating vanity are accented by a custom handmade shell mirror from Palm Beach Home Style. Stepping into the walk-in closet, we wanted to create a little surprise in the custom bar we designed, which includes a Jenn-Air beverage center installed into the California Closet cabinets. The walls of the closet feature another colorful mural wallpaper, this one from Harlequin, and we finished off the space with a polished crystal chandelier from Ro Sham Beaux… It all makes for fun and exciting place to get dressed!

We hope you enjoy this whimsical journey into Mabley Handler’s vision of the past and future styles of Palm Beach!

    “Le Palmier Blanc

“Channeling the ethos of Palm Beach as well the home’s location directly on the Intracoastal, our pool loggia and terrace strips away the stereotypical “Palm Beach Look” with its riot of color and pattern and distills it to a more subtle and refined palette with a strong sense of place. With Brown Jordan’s iconic Calcutta furniture and a custom ‘patchwork trellis’ screen from Fuller Architectural Panels, our space highlights the iconography of Palm Beach style in a not-so-in-your-face way, enhancing and drawing the visitors eye to the beauty of the natural surroundings

“THE COCOA LOUNGE” by Danielle Rollins

An intimate gathering space located on the main level off the entrance hall connecting to the living room with large, cased openings, limestone walls, and soaring ceiling heights.  The designer, Danielle Rollins based in Palm Beach designed the room with a sinfully comfortable furniture arrangement envisioning the room as place to gather with friends for cocktails or simply take a post swim nap.

Gravitating to the late 70’s -early 80’s disco era of unabashed decadence, the room is an homage to the purist Angelo Donghia, when Halston’s revolutionary silk dresses, Donna Summer’s music and YSL’s cult parfum Opium filled the air exuding fame, money, and glamour.  Donghia defined 80’s classicism.  His mantra “You should feel that what is around you is attractive. And that you are attractive” is one the designer adheres to.  Known for her use of saturated colors and adept mix of patterns, the designer did just the opposite here and chose a tropically minimalist neutral palette to allow the nuance of form and texture to predominate.  Glimmering hints of sparkle and the patina of wood and coconut richly contrast with organic materials. The space is trademark Danielle Rollins based on a traditional design sensibility with a contemporary flair, creating a tailored yet relaxed elegance.

A richly textured sisal rug grounds the space. Warm reflecting light contrasts the cool matte white organic shaped Molina Tiered Chandelier from Visual Comfort. Baskets of banana palms, a potted Australian tree fern, vases of tropical elephant ear sized leaves, planters filled with lush white orchids and heavily scented velvety gardenias fill the air.  The anchor piece of the room is the designer’s own prized Donghia “Block Island’ massive rush and mahogany armoire turned signature “barmoire” with a sexy mirrored interior.  A well-stocked bar selection is contained in the custom cane and acrylic tray the designer created, reminiscent of the Italian 70’s pieces in the once-famed Dior Avenue Montaigne home collection.

A mammoth folding screen sits behind the “barmoire” upholstered in a Danielle Rollins’ designed batik inspired fabric just being introduced called “Carlyle”.  The designer included several pieces from her own art collection for a personal touch.

On the main wall, the framed palm photograph series titled, “Everybody Is A Little Cocoanuts” by local photographer Carmel Brantley flank a colossal seashell mirror commissioned from Stephanie Ferguson. A deeply upholstered sofa and Block Island chair are sporting Kravet’s performance fabric, exuding comfort with a modern sensibility, perfect for the Florida indoor/outdoor lifestyle.  A pair of classic grasscloth Billy Baldwin Studio Slipper Chairs and Danielle Rollins “Carlyle” seat cushions sit on the sides of the American-made luxury Keith Fritz bespoke coffee table of wire brushed black palm wood and Mayan sun clay tile top.  The pair of deco influenced rosewood tables sit opposite the sofa with a dash of sparkle from the Aerin Riga Floor Lamps. A pair of Christopher Spitzmiller custom Sophie lamps with 23k gold water gilt bases sits atop a vintage Garcel lacquered coconut shell pedestal console.  A large abstract mixed media piece commissioned from Birmingham artist Greg Goetches hangs on the wall toward the entrance hall as well as series of tropical flower studies in black ink from Renée Bouchon flank the cased opening looking out to the loggia and intracoastal beyond. The Great Room, Amanda Lindroth

“The inspiration for our room lies in the spirit of the Great Rooms of wonderful houses on the French Riviera. We are designing a room that is timeless and layered. It has grand antiques anchoring the end walls and a hand-painted, patinated wall finish. The curtains and fabrics are linens and cottons and breezy. There is comfortable upholstery, pops of wicker and rattan and a hand painted striped coir rug. Palms and orchids bring life to this grand but ever so comfortable room.” Amanda Lindroth
