Demarchelier Bistro, a parfait French dining experience

Over the last 10 years Greenport has evolved into the mecca for discerning palates of the North Fork and Demarchelier has become a sought after destination. With quintessential chef selections such as charcuterie boards with jambon de Bayonne, chorizo, garlic sausage, saucisson, pâté de campagne, duck rillette, foie gras, cheese or endive salads, steak tartare or helix escargot de Bretagne all things Demarchelier celebrate French authenticity. More enjoyable bites include duck confit, salad Nicoise classic, pomme Dauphine, and the quiche of the day. Who doesn’t love chocolate fondant or Crème Brulée.

With a predominantly French wine selection, one can find favorites or an outlying wine selection, with rosé Provence, Pouilly Fumé, Sancerre and sought out appellations can be found including Château de Chassagne-Montrachet red or white. Thus, Demarchelier provides a price-point with selections for everyone.

Since 1978, the family operated restaurant has become a staple starting out on the Upper East Side of New York City. The bistro’s ambiance oozes the same as its menu, traditionally French. Now nestled in the north part of Greenport village a few blocks from the docks, it provides an informal destination for lite bites, meetings, romantic dinners or family outings. The staff is friendly, and the founding family can frequently be found on-site. The Greenport bistro’s owner Emily Demarchelier has a certain benevolence that creates a comfortability that fills the whole restaurant. The Patriarch, Eric Demarchelier’s creativity culminates with abstractions adoring the walls, while his wife Catherine is a joy to be around. They are a special family.

“Greenport is very much a village where people are walking around and shopping and stopping at several different places, so I wanted to kind of attract that crowd of people that don’t necessarily want to sit for a whole meal, that wants to have a little bite to eat, taste a few things, have a few glasses of wine, and then go onto the next place.” – Emily Demarchelier
